Math / Science
Shape Drawing: Trapezoid – Draw a trapezoid on a piece of paper and ask your child to turn that shape into something new. Save the drawing for your child to show their teacher on their next home visit call.
Art / Writing
Graphics Practice -X Marks The Spot: Video – In this video, our friend Teacher Anna has recorded an activity we do often in class. Before watching this video ask your child to get a pencil/crayon/marker and a piece of paper or whiteboard and encourage them to sit at the table as they watch this video. If your child is not able to do the activity exactly how I am doing it that is ok, they are still learning and the important thing is to encourage them to practice! Problem Solving
Animal Drawing and Story – Ask your child to think of an animal they know. If they need help thinking of ideas you can always suggest a few options: polar bear, sheep, cat, bird, seal, fish, ect. Ask your child to help you draw it and discuss the different body parts and label them. If your child is too young to draw a picture you can help draw an animal and label the parts together. Then have fun making up a story about your animal.
Floor Puzzles – Use the big floor puzzles that came in your supply boxes from the school. If your child needs help give them clues like “what colors can you see on this puzzle piece? Can you find another piece with the same color?” If your child is comfortable with the puzzle and finishes it quickly, suggest you make it a game by timing them putting the puzzle together. Record the time and try to beat it next week.
Math / Science
Animal shapes – In your child’s supply box, there should be some plastic shapes with all different colors. Encourage your child to try making animal shapes on their own (with some adult help showing them how to make a few examples of animals) or even use the tangram cards provided. There are two difficulties with the cards provided, one with lines that tell the child where each shape will go and ones without lines inside the shape. Start with the cards that have the lines suggesting where each shape should go. They can even count how many shapes they used, or what colors there are!

ACTIVITIES FOR OUR YOUNGER CHILDREN
Discuss Your Feelings – It is always great to discuss emotions with your child. I like to make a habit of asking children throughout the day “how do you feel” and talk through their emotions and what is making them feel that way. Sometimes it might be happy, and you might reflect on their favorite snack that is making them happy or sometimes it might be angry and you can talk about what is making them angry like not wanting to share a toy. All emotions are important and we want to let children know it is ok to be angry. We should just focus on how to support them in making safe choices and helping them realize what will help them feel better. Sometimes children are so overwhelmed with feelings they can’t tell you what they feel. It is good to help them have some space and then talk about it when they are calm again.
